I only have prophecies and am working on a W char. I solo a lot, but like to play with a group when I get the chance.

I have monk currently as a second profession. I feel like this is fairly common (?). I think it is a fairly easy combo. Pretty standard buff and tank stuff.

Is this a good way to go for soloing prophecies and/or contributing to a group?

I also like necro, but am unsure about it as a 2nd profession for a W (?). The magic professions in general seem tough for a W due to the low magic/regen.

Ele - Shock, conjures
Necro - Plague Touch
Monk - no clue anymore as most of the good monk stuff for a war is in NF
Mesmer - have seen hexbreaker wars for sineptitude, but not common
ranger - apply poison sword wars are fun, iway w/ pet (note this is the worst choice)

Since you're wanting a solo warrior build, you're probably going to have to stay within the monk secondary as most of the others offer little to help with a warrior in soloing (soloing as in you're the only party member. If you have henchmen, ignore this comment)

War/Elemental is most likely the best choice for a Prophicies only char.

There are much more than just the conjure available to be used, though those are the most effective skills.

[whirlwind] for example in PvE is quite usefull for an AoE knockdown, even the AI monks wand between healing so the condition is easy to meet.

I'd go /E for a conjure. Rest isn't really appealing, though /R is good during those 'Lets do something stupid and irrational just for fun and to hell with the damage' moments.

Thanks everyone! I do tend to play solo by myself without hench a lot, so maybe I will stick with monk for a bit. I never would've thought to pick /E so I will definitely keep that in mind for down the road. You can switch 2nd professions, right?

Yup when you get to the desert you'll get 4 missions to unlock the secondaries you didn't chose.

ok, sounds good, i'm still messing around in pre right now. people are telling me not to go to pre until i'm higher level. i'll probably leave pre once beating the charr beyond the gate aren't helping me level that easily anymore.

Theres not much point staying in pre-searing very long, play there until you stop fnd it fun, don't push it.
There is so much available once you leave (>90% of the game). You cannot change your second proffesion for quite a while so make sure you're happy with the one you pick, you can play around with different ones in pre.
Personally for prophecies I would take either Elementalist or Monk.
Here's some ideas:

Ele - [whirlwind][conjure flame][conjure lightning][conjure frost][grasping earth][armor of earth]

Monk - [mend ailment][rebirth][restore life][resurrect][strength of honor][holy strike](on a hammer bar)

Some are a bit iffy and there are a some more options, both secondaries have some farming capabilities also.
Two things to remember W/Mos do not heal teammates and rarely themselves. W/E very, very rarely cast offensive spells, steer clear.

Whatever secondary you choose just remember to have fun, you don't always have to go with "the most effective" secondary.

Imo, take ele or necro(plague touch, mark of pain can be quite useful too) but if you take ele, don't take damage spells(flare, fireball etc...).

And Ele has some sexy stuff like Shock, Grasping Earth and Conjure X!

Purge Signet kills your energy. And puts you out of combat for 2 seconds.

You still need energy for some skills.

purge signet is fine imo
when you switch weapons you basically lose 5 energy maximum when using it

When I started prophecies as a W/Mo my secondary skills were usually the two vigorous spells. I mainly had the secondary to self heal so that the healer has one less worry, or little worry. It did me good all the way to the end. I also used a few prot spells too. They helped, a little.

Spending 50 attribute points and at least 2 skill slots so the Monk only has to work half as hard to do something he/she is set up specifically to do is a waste. The effort you save the Monks is small enough that it won't matter. Hugging yourself is bad, take [[Lion's Comfort] if you want a self-heal, otherwise leave the job to the Monks. Your job is to blow stuff up, don't forget it.
